Author(s):
Join Bridgespan Group Chairman and Co-founder Thomas Tierney at the 2009 Council of Michigan Foundations Conference where he will be speaking on Wednesday, November 4, from 11:30am to 1pm as part of a plenary on "Achieving Higher Impact in the New Opportunities in Michigan's New Economy." Additional Resources: Galvanizing Philanthropy (Harvard Business Review, November 2009)

Delivering on the Promise of Nonprofits (Harvard Business Review, December 2008)
As U.S. nonprofits take on an increasing share of society's work, they face mounting pressure from stakeholders—donors, boards, employees—to show results. To make the greatest possible impact, they need to explicitly state the outcomes they're aiming for and how they plan to accomplish those goals. Higher-Impact Philanthropy (Philanthropy, February 2007)
Philanthropy is a growth business. But will an influx of new philanthropic capital yield dramatically more social impact? The answer can be “yes.” But only if donors understand some basic philanthropic realities.
